So do you know whether SMP 8.1 will tolerate an in-place "OS" upgrade to, say, 2012 R2? If not then how are Altiris admins migrating their data (SQL off-box) from their old SMP server to a new one?įor ITMS 8. Thanks for the NS OS info! Guess before I decide to "pull the trigger" on the upgrade, I should open up a support case to be safe hopefully to avoid any gotchas.

Better to take a new clean Windows Server OS for ITMS and new SQL Server where 8.1 RU7 database will be restored for further off-box upgrade.Ĭonsider supported upgrade paths (Because this is not possible in one click perform upgrade from 8.1 RU7 to 8.6 RU2)Ĭonsider supported Windows OS (I'll suggest to do not take Windows 2012 R2 OS since its EOL shown - by Microsoft)Ĭonsider supported SQL Server version (I'll suggest to do not take SQL 2012 because its EOL shown - Jby Microsoft)Ĭheck this documentation for ITMS migration purposes Upgrading Windows 2008 R2 SP1 to Windows 2012 R2 OS with already running ITMS 8.1 RU7, this is not officially supported case, therefore this will be own risk if after OS upgrade there will be non working ITMS.Ģ. Since ITMS 8.5 RU3 release, there is no need to have Silverlight installedġ. You can't on-box upgrade 8.1 RU7 which is running on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 圆4 to ITMS 8.5 or ITMS 8.6Ģ. Windows 2008 R2 isn't supported since ITMS 8.5 release (You need to have at least Windows 2012 R2 Server for ITMS 8.5. This is why I'd like to know what browser plugins/add-ins are required for the 8.6.RU2 console (I'm assuming the Silverlight requirement has been dropped since it's no longer supported by Microsoft).ġ. In 8.1, the Silverlight requirement seems to be a sticking point that reduces you to only using IE 11 since the latest versions of Chrome/Firefox have dropped the ability to enable Silverlight in them. You can check the Enable Silverlight status on the list of add-ons by typing it into the box above. Heck, I haven't even checked into NS system requirements yet so hope 8.6 will run on Windows 2008 R2. Why Does Silverlight Not Work On Internet Explorer By selecting Use Tools from the lower right corner of the Internet Explorer program window and Manage Add-ons from the menu that appears, you will be able to modify this extension. To resolve this issue, Chrome provides an override to re-enable NPAPI support. Consequently, webpages relying on the Java plugin will not function correctly. I'm aware of IETab for Chrome but have been running my 8.1 SMC via IE 11 with Silverlight. As of version 42, Google Chrome disables support for NPAPI plugins by default. I'm looking to upgrade my SMP 8.1 server to 8.6 RU2 and was wondering about browser requirements to run the console.

Sorry.I should've been clearer with my query. Looks like Chrome is supported so are there any browser plugins that are required as well? Can't run Silverlight anymore on the latest Chrome/Firefox (only IE 11 is left) so guessing this is no longer a requirement. I'm still running version 8.1 and was wondering what the requirements are for the latest Symantec Management Console. Enable Silverlight in Internet Explorer Click on tools or Settings. ITMS 8.1 RU7 console works using IE Tab in Chrome browserįor ITMS 8.6 RU2 release, you can use Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, Microsoft Edge browsers Subject: ITMS 8.6 RU2 Browser and Plug-in Requirementsįor ITMS 8.1 RU7, You can try to use "IE Tab" extension for Chrome browser.
